Working to make schools safe for our youth

Here we are one year since our world was turned upside down due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.... We were originally told "15 days to slow the spread" last March, yet here we are 1 year later and this National crisis is worse than ever. Our school students have bounced back and forth from in-person to online to hybrid learning with no immediate end in sight. SRO's around the state have been reassigned to other duties since many schools have been closed for almost a year now. Just recently, Arizona had the highest per-capita rate of new Covid-19 infections in the United States.
During all of this, we still have no idea what this summer will bring. Recently, the ASROA Board had to make a decision in conjunction with the Talking Stick Resort on the status of the 2021 School Safety Conference. By this time of the year, most of the conference details would have already had to have been finalized and alot of money either spent or contracted for the event. All the while, we would not know if we could hold an event with 300+ people by June. After careful thoughts and discussions with the resort, the ASROA Board has made the decision to cancel the 2021 Conference now.
This was not an easy decision to cancel the event for the second straight year but the safety of everyone involved and fiscal responsibility of the organization had to be in the forefront of our minds.
I wish everyone nothing but the best for the remainder of 2021 and I hope and pray that we are all back to normal (whatever that is) by 2022.
Take care and stay safe!
